Kit Lesson 8: Bird’s-Eye View: Looking at the Parts of a Stream
Representations of landforms and/or bodies of water are usually illustrated from an aerial view because it shows the entire area, including where streams empty into lakes or oceans. Students create and compare aerial drawings and then create class aerial drawing to review commons parts of the stream. Parts of the stream include rill, gully, channel, stream, tributary, river, head, mouth, drainage basin, delta, floodplain, valley and canyon.
1. You will identify the common parts of the stream and label areas or erosion and deposition. This can be done on poster paper in addition to the plastic sheets in order to give all students a chance to illustrate. (DOK 2)
