Kit Lesson 14: Plants: Protecting Sloped Land from Erosion (PT)
Ground cover (trees, shrubs, non-woody plants, grasses, litter) prevents excessive erosion. Litter is defined as decayed twigs, needles, leaves, bark and?or organic matter. Forest protect soil as well as natural cover of vegetation. Soil conservationists help farmers and landowners develop plans for conserving soil and water. Human activities, such as over farming and overgrazing, contribute greatly to erosion.
